Wuthering Heights (2011)

Wuthering Heights (2011)

The newest version of Wuthering Heights, touted as a gritty, bold re-imagining of the classic Bronte tale of star crossed lovers, happens to be the most boring version I've seen to date.

While over two hours long, it omits much of the material from the book, ending after Cathy dies.  It includes very little dialogue considering the length of the movie, instead focusing on telling the story visually.  Lots of shots of the bleak moors.  Passionate glances.  Sexually charged silences.

The "modern vision" entails adding a lot of f-words, full frontal male nudity, and the graphic abuse and killing of animals.

It still manages to tell the story of two forces so powerful and wild they mow down everything in their path -self-destructing under the pressure of their passionate, but vicious love.  It just tells it in a really tedious way.
